Hawaii. It’s even more beautiful than I expected.
I’ve come to realize that family vacations like this may be coming to an end soon. My kids are growing, jobs will get in the way and it may be years before we can go away together – all five of us in one place.
That’s why this trip is so important to me. It’s a time for us to make more memories – and isn’t that what it’s all about? Making memories with your children to last a lifetime?
It’s been interesting to watch how my children each respond to their surroundings. They are almost all teens now. One wants to have fun. All the time. Whether it’s pin trading or swimming or snorkelling or… you get the picture. One is trying to show how mature she’s getting. She’s been our photographer, capturing the sights and just content to ‘be’. My other isn’t a beach, sun, pool type of girl. She’d rather be out exploring the island.
We are staying at the Disney Aulani resort and it’s beautiful here. Fun, family oriented – everything you would expect from Disney. We have enjoyed our time here for sure.
We’ve had a few highlights. Swimming in the ocean with wild dolphins, watching great green sea turtles get cleaned on their rock, having one come up to inspect my daughter as she took photos with her underwater camera – but for me, the best was having my oldest (who has until now been afraid to swim in the ocean due to sharks) jump in and have a family of dolphins swim by her!
We spent a day touring – we went to Pearl Habor, drove around the island and were amazed at all the sights we saw.
I think another highlight for us all is that my parents are here with us. This is our second family vacation we’ve taken with them and it’s always fun!
Next up is our Disney Cruise! Tomorrow we head to Maui!
